The Georgian Quarter in Liverpool is mostly known for being the home of the two cathedrals (Metropolitan and Anglican) and for the lovely cobbled streets with large Georgian townhouses, which, unless there are signs of students living in them, make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Nestled between these is a cosy pub, with an interior so traditional, it’s worth popping in just to take a look around.
Originally built in the 1850s, Peter Kavanagh’s (or ‘PK’ to regulars) is known for its rich décor, with a grand piano, strange artefacts and souvenirs (crocodile skin included) and vintage posters adorning the walls. Elsewhere you’ll find murals by Eric Robinson, stained glass windows and mosaic floors. You can choose from multiple rooms and snugs available to hide away in to sip your pint, whether you’re looking for a quiet lunchtime drink or a good start to your night out. There is a wide selection of ales and traditional pub food on the menu.
It may not be a city centre location but if you’re visiting the Georgian Quarter, Peter Kavanagh’s well worth a visit, even if you just want to order a lemonade and take in the surroundings. Fans of old-style pubs in particular are guaranteed to love this place.
